Stoneman had just left his quarters on the station as his Padd alerted him of a personal schedule change. John stopped in the corridor to review the message. The program orientation was moving him up for a physical clearance and he was to report as soon as possible to the medical department on the station to get this issue sorted out. John observed all other matters had been cleared from his Padd. This seemed to be the way the forces of scheduling worked around here. Do what your told or we'll screw up your plans...
Stoneman was headed for the Holodeck in some workout clothes and hoped he could buzz through the appointment out of uniform. He didn't look to scruffy and it was worth a try at least. John was close to medical and wondered in like a lost puppy.
Narisa was just finishing up re-calibrating the bio bed nearest the door when it opened. Sitting on the floor cross-legged she looked up at the man in civilian clothes. "Ah can I assist you?" she asked curiously.
Stoneman looked down at his Padd. "Yes it seems I have received word that I need a medical clearance right away. I'm John Stoneman. Assigned to the Eagle actually. Perhaps you could help me sort this issue out?" He looked down at the medical officer shrugging his shoulders.
Narisa put down the tools and stood. "You are the executive officer." She stated. "I am LtJG Narisa, Chief Medical officer. And I a guessing that is a summons for your on boarding medical exam."
John smiled. "Yes indeed it is Lieutenant. a good fate that I have caught the chief medical officer in her natural habitat." John was teasing the doctor lightly. "I suppose I must endure the rigors of a checkup before running a Frigate." Stoneman was surprised she knew who he was out of uniform. But it was a rather small station.
"I hope this isn't a bad time to drop in. However this Padd gave me little choice in the matter."
"I am glad, it worked" She said calmly. "On that bio bed please" she pointed to the second into the medical bay.
Clearly seeing the odds against him in avoiding the entire process Stoneman nodded with a smile and sat on the bio bed as instructed. he prepared for a somewhat routine exam from the CMO. She certainly was a highly knowledgeable Physician or she wouldn't be considered for her current position. He reflected on his own age and experience. Many had and would have concerns about his own abilities as a first officer due to his age. He shook his head and cleared his mind from the thoughts that swirled around. He sat with his hands in his lap glancing around the room.
Narisa picked up the medical scanner and stepped up beside him. "So, tell me do you have any medical conditions that I should be aware of?"
John thought for a second.. "A somewhat serious caffeine addiction. I blame it on my career choice. Other than that nothing really." He was trying to be lighthearted in this situation.
"Hmm" the Doctor said as she ran a scan over him. "Well you seem to be in good physical condition." She announced as she finished the scan. "How many cups or mugs of coffee do you consume in a day?"
John had to think. "One or two at the beginning of watch, perhaps a few at mid shift. However only water after that until sleep." Even he thought perhaps it was a bit much. he would make a mental note to try to cut back...
"Ah... you need to cut back. Try herbal tea in mid shift. Too much coffee you will eventually have issues."
"Of course. I'll start right away." Stoneman did enjoy Tea so at least he wasn't upset about cutting back on the coffee as much.
"good. Well you are all good for duty Lieutenant." Narisa stated. She picked up the PADD and signed it. And handed it over to him.
John shook his head. "That's it? I recall a much stricter exam the last time I was seen. Not that I have any complaint."
"My scanners can pick up everything that is wrong with a person, I see no reason to make people sweat it out on a treadmill or anything like that." Narisa smiled faintly. "You are fit for duty"
"Thank you very much." He looked down to his padd and observed his schedule had returned after being released by the doctor. Stoneman also noted several more tasks had arrived. None of them seemed to be pressing issues at the moment.
"Are you assigned to the Eagle?" John wasn't certain if the Lieutenant was the Station physician or not.
"Yes, I am its Chief Medical officer" Narisa replied as she began to file his physical.
"Outstanding." He was very pleased she would be on the crew. She had talent. "Just the fact your our CMO tells me you have a vast amount of experience."
"Yeah that's not exactly true." Narisa said. "This is my first time in charge of a medical bay."
John smiled. "And this is my first assignment as an Exec... And we're both going to do a stellar job." The young doctor had a silent confidence a trait that would take her far. He jumped off the bio bed. "I have all the faith in you and the fleet. If they had any concerns at all about our judgement or performance we just wouldn't be here. And as your first officer, you have all my support."
"I appreciate that you lead by example Lieutenant. If only all senior staff made their way down here without a security escort." Narisa inclined her head. "have a good day Sir."
"Very well then. I'll be headed out." Stoneman nodded and striding back to the direction of the holodeck for a few minutes before reporting to the bridge.
