Mission: Episode 1: On Stranger Tides
Location: Bridge
Timeline: MD03
626 words - 1.3 OF Standard Post Measure

The ship was nearing the end of its fourth shift when they dropped back into normal space. Carter had been in her ready room up until a few minutes before but was now on the bridge, she didn't need to be, her night shift crew were more than able to guide the ship through a dust cloud. But it was a milestone for her, the first time her ship had dropped out of warp. She was excited.

What she didn't expect to see on the sensors though was a massive gravity well and the sight of a distant blackhole. Frowning she checked with the current bridge crew weather this had been in their records thinking that she had missed something.

But no. She hadn't, as far as their records went no federation sensor had ever seen this singularity, the reason was a simple one, the dust cloud that had forced them to impulse speeds contained a good percentage of minerals that blocked sensors. Which was, of course, another of the reasons to slow down when passing through.

"Lieutenants Stoneman and Granger, please come up to the bridge" she said over the comms system. It was a little strange to find a black hole where it wasn't expected.

John arrived on the bridge. He was a bit concerned with the reduced function of the sensors. The reduction in detection could put them at a clear tactical disadvantage. But he didn't have the whole story yet. Stoneman approached the CO. "Interesting find Ma'am."

Lise walked into the bridge. "Interesting indeed." She sat down. "Captain. Singularity is irregular. Subspace Sensors are useless with the Dust Cloud, but it's a fact there is a dust cloud that intrigues me. This dust should have been pulled into the accretion disk." Dr. Granger also spoke. "It doesn't behave like a normal black hole. Some Matter is being pulled into it, but other matter is being expelled."

Ajani looked over her shoulder at Lise, "I think i am more interested in the black hole. It is only showing traces of hawking radiation and hardly any gas ejection.

Lise checked her scans, her eyebrows raised. "Intriguing... there's something else there. The hole is wobbling. Like there's something else with a similar amount of gravity."

Carter was a pilot and navigator so she understood the navigational hazards of a blackhole, but the science part eluded her, "One something or lots of something?" she asked looking around at the XO. "Helm, move us as close as you can" she knew the Eagle wasn't going to be able to get too close but any distance closed would improve their sensor resolution.

"How close will we need to be to get a clearer reading of whats going on?" she asked, she knew it was closer than they could get but needed to know if they could get anything else closer.

"Event horizon fluctuating. Whatever is matching the singularity's mass, Its performing a elegant and beautiful dance of death at almost a twenty million meters a second. Talk about dancing to Spanish Lulliby. Think i will name this anomaly. If there is Hawking Radiation, it's being absorbed by the dance partner. Is macarena a good name?"

Ajani looked around at her XO when he didn't reply, he was slumped in his chair. "Bridge to Transporter room 1, beam the XO to sickbay now, bridge to medical, incoming emergency."

As the whine of the transporter faded Carter slumped a little. "Get started Lise" she sighed "Speak with engineering about modify the sensors." It was bound to be a long day, she wanted to rush down to medical to find out what was happening with the XO, but she would just be in the way and they had their tests to run.
