Commander Ajini Carter had to track her second officer down, it hadn't taken much effort to be fair she was to be found in the Eagle's Primary, and only real science lab. A big room that was kitted out to handle any science that would be needed in the moment. She was already planning on expanding the ships sciences into the void spaces every ship had at the start of their life.
Carter walked through the door into what she could only discribe as barely contained chaos! It seemed as though all the science staff were in this one room.
"Lieutenant Narisa?" she called out into the room in general.
"Sickbay is down the hall." Elisabet noted simply as she read what appeared to be a book. In fact she had several bookcases of them in her lab on various subjects. Some of them replicated. She often transcribed data onto books because she enjoyed the textile contact of knowledge.
Carter frowned wondering what had just happened. She sighed, closed her eyes and rubbed her temples. "Its been a long day" she muttered, "Lieutenant Granger" she said then said the name again a little louder.
Lise stood up and examined the woman. Tilting her head she moved to the replicator. "Computer, Tarkelean Tea." The tea replicated and she brought it to Ajani. "Drink slowly, it will help. And I am Lieutenant Granger." Simply spoken as usual.
Not really a tea drinker, but a hot drink would help she took the offered cup and took a sip. "Thank you Lieutenant. It has been a long day" she smiled while looking around "I see your settling in well. Whats...?" the question left unsaid.
"I have a program that transcribes knowledge I select into Books using the Replicator. I like textile things." Lise noted. "That and books don't require power."
"Well, i guess so yeah." Carter said looking around again, "I have been considering expanding into the void here on Deck 4. Seeing this i think we need a library as well. A small science complex, maybe a few more specialized labs. What you think?"
"I have been pondering that." Lise noted. "You can understand a species, a people, a civilization by studying their art and literature. That is useful in diplomacy. Very well." Lise noted. "Examine the books there often. I'll have materials that may help us with each mission in there. I do a lot of thinking." Lise mentioned. "Too much at times."
She smiled "We should all be guilty of that. I will get Engineering on the lay outs, I will need a good scan of Cardassian space once we arrive at the boarder, see what the Fleet has and also contact the Central Commander and see if they will be willing to give us anything. Astrometrics will need to be manned on all three shifts."
"Depends on whom I talk to, and whom I can trust to talk to." Lise noted. "Many desire the future, some desire the glories of the past on Cardassia, and we must find a Cardassian who loves his or her people and puts their well-being first, but even that person may want the past." Lise stood. "I will keep you appraised.
"Thank you. I do have a personal request of you. One which, if you agree to help me with must be strictly off hours"
Lise smiled and looked at carter with curiosity like she was paying close attention
She grinned and pulled out a padd. "Have you heard of the 'Great Attractor' before?"
"A Gravitational Anomaly in the middle of the Laniakea Supercluster. Interesting what gravity is. One theory says the universe ends with crunch, The other with a rip. Big Crunch or Big Rip... None take time into account as a variable." Lise noted. "Space expands, time expands. So what happens to time? Does it keep on going forward? Or compressed backwards. Impossible to say without studying reality, and science cannot study reality." Lise mentioned. "Like a fish trying to contemplate what's beyond his bowl. Ask a Q, he, she, or it may have a more interesting answer... if we can comprehend it."
"The Q are less than forth coming." Carter said with a smile. "However, it is somewhat of an interest to me. There has been suggestion in the last year or so that the reason behind the Great Attractor is a giga structure of some kind. So far none of the Federations sensor have been able to get more than token information. Until now, well maybe"
"Possibly a hyper-massive black hole. Wouldn't be unheard of. Such an anomaly would be constantly emitting a massive amount of Hawking Radiation. Perhaps a galactic scale Dyson sphere? Who's civilization could possibly need so much power? Interesting hypothesis, assuming we have a way to study it." Lise noted.
"Well, I have managed to get access to 1,921 individual sensor platforms for 10 minutes in three days time. They will all be pointed in that direction." She had to pull in so many favors she wasn't sure if she would be repaying them for the rest of her life.
"And why would you do such a thing Ajani?" Lise noted. "We may study the Great Attractor for ten minutes, and then come to the conclusion that the answer to everything is the number forty-two." Lise grinned widely. "But we might as well use these sensor platforms. It might be fun."
"The theory is akin to the Earth Very Large Telescope array. don't think of it as ten minutes from 1921 telescopes think of it rather like around two weeks worth of data from thousands of different view points. As to why, it is interesting, what kind of force can attract trillions of solar masses from a universe which is still expanding?"
"Better than doing nothing with our spare time. I like you Commander." Lise noted. "Let's see what's out there."
Carter smiled, "I will leave you to your work Lieutenant. Speak with the work crews if you have anything in mind for the library or extra labs." She nodded and then spun on the spot heading for the door. The Eagle was a small ship but she was already shaping up to be a fine one.
