Rank Structure

The Federation Starfleet is roughly divided into two divisions. Starfleet (navy) and the Starfleet Marines.

Below is a general overview of the ranks utilised by both branches. These ranks have been carried over from old ‘wet bottom’ navies that sailed Earths oceans for hundreds of years before the formation of the Federation. It is a testament to Earths importance in the early alliance of planets that their rank system would be used instead of any other founding members.

It should be noted that while these ranks are listed in order of ‘pay’ grade it is never as simple as it seems. Starship Captains can often hold lower ranks than members of their own officers.
